Adult ADHD & Neurodivergence

ADHD Therapy in Boulder

For capable, self-aware adults who keep hitting the same walls. In person in Boulder and online anywhere in Colorado.

Most of the adults I see for ADHD are succeeding by most measures. They are smart, effective, often the person everyone else leans on. And privately, the same patterns keep repeating: the project that stalls at ninety percent, the inbox that becomes a source of dread, the partner who is tired of being the one who remembers. The usual advice, try harder, get more organized, has already been tried, many times.

An ADHD mind is not a broken version of a typical mind. It is a different one, with real costs and real gifts, and it does not need to be fixed so much as understood and worked with. That is the whole orientation of this work.

"Often what looks like a discipline problem is the signature of an interesting mind."

What we actually do

Two things at once. First, the practical layer. We look closely at how your attention behaves, when it locks in and when it slides off, and we build structures that fit that reality instead of fighting it. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is a natural match here. Attention training meets you exactly where the struggle lives, and the cognitive piece helps you catch the spirals of self-criticism before they gather momentum.

Second, the deeper layer. Years of being told you are lazy, careless, or not living up to your potential leave marks. A lot of adult ADHD work is quietly about shame, and about anxiety that grew up as a coping strategy. We address that directly, because skills built on top of shame do not hold.

Who this is for

Adults with a diagnosis, adults who suspect one, and adults who were told they could not possibly have ADHD because they did fine in school. Professionals, creatives, parents, graduate students. People whose relationships are strained by the ADHD dynamic, which is why I also do couples work where one partner is neurodivergent.

What I am not

I am a licensed professional counselor, not a prescriber. If medication is part of your picture, you will work with a psychiatrist or physician for that, and I am happy to coordinate so the two sides of your care actually talk to each other. And I am not here to pathologize you. Suffering less is a good reason to start. Building a life that fits your mind is the better one.

Boulder, and anywhere in Colorado

I see clients in person at my office on Spruce Street in downtown Boulder, and by secure video across the state, from Denver and Fort Collins to the mountain towns. Sessions run 50 to 60 minutes on an income-based sliding scale, and the first conversation is a free 30 minutes to see whether we are a fit. You can also read more about the mindfulness-based approach that underlies this work, or about working together online.

Common questions

Do I need a formal ADHD diagnosis to start?

No. Plenty of people come in suspecting ADHD, or having been told they can't have it because they are successful. We start with how your attention actually behaves in your life, not with a label.

Can you do the testing that gives me an official ADHD diagnosis?

No. Formal ADHD testing is done by a psychologist or a prescriber, and I am a licensed professional counselor, so that is outside what I do. You do not need testing to start therapy here. If you want a formal evaluation, for work accommodations or for a medication conversation, tell me in the consultation and I will point you toward people in Boulder who do it and coordinate with them from there.

Do you prescribe ADHD medication?

No. I am a licensed professional counselor, not a prescriber. Many of my clients work with a psychiatrist or physician for medication and with me for the rest, and I am glad to coordinate with your prescriber.

Is this ADHD coaching or therapy?

Therapy, which includes practical skills. We build systems that fit how your mind works, and we also address the shame, anxiety, and relationship strain that usually come with years of undiagnosed or misunderstood ADHD.

Can we work online?

Yes. I see clients in person in Boulder and by secure video anywhere in Colorado.

What does it cost?

Individual sessions run on an income-based sliding scale with no verification required, and the first 30-minute consultation is free. Out-of-network superbills are available for private insurance.
